Staff at Kleeneze & Express Gifts in Accrington have been putting the ‘fun’ into fundraising as they raised £5,179 to help children with disabilities and terminal illness in Lancashire.
The home shopping company chose Newlife the Charity for Disabled Children as one of three charities to support for a year from April 1, 2016, and held a variety of fundraising events, including themed fancy dress, quizzes, dress down days and sparkle parties, before finishing with a final fundraising day which saw a day of awareness raising about Newlife, a cake bake and tombola at their headquarters.
The funds raised have been used to help two Lancashire children, who have neurological conditions, receive the vital equipment they need to help them in their everyday lives.
Fifteen-year-old Nathan received £881 towards a wheelchair that helps him take part in lots of activities, like shopping or popping round to visit friends and family. A full-time wheelchair user with poorly controlled epilepsy, he had outgrown his old wheelchair and it had become difficult for him to go anywhere. Without the new equipment he would have been virtually housebound.
A further £4,298 has helped nine-year-old Aliz get a specialist bed to keep her safe in the night. The new bed has padded sides so she can’t hurt herself and it’s much easier for her mum to care for her as the bed can be raised and lowered depending on her needs.
Alison Banks and Rachel Barnes from the Kleeneze & Express Gifts charity committee said: “We're thrilled to be able to help change children’s lives for the better. We love working with a charity which can make a difference in our local community and knowing that 100 per cent of the money raised will be spent on the equipment they need. We've loved working with Newlife and will continue to support through volunteering throughout the next year.”
Newlife Regional Fundraising and Awareness Manager Claire Kelly said: “It's been an absolute pleasure working alongside such an inspiring and motivational charity committee, who work as a team to make a huge difference locally, with lots of fun and the feel good factor clear to see across the company with huge engagement and support from everyone along the way!”
