Next week, a pair of Lincolnshire firefighters set off on a 450-mile cycle ride between the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales – to help disabled and terminally ill children.
Firefighter Clive Baillie, aged 53, and 43-year-old Watch Manager Kyle Campbell will be setting off from Grantham fire station at 11am on Wednesday 5 July for the gruelling challenge – which will also include climbing the three mountains of Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon.
If that wasn’t tough enough, they have set themselves a target of just three days to complete the adventure.
They hope to raise in excess of £11,000, to be divided equally between Newlife the Charity for Disabled Children, specifically to help families in Lincolnshire, and The Fire Fighters’ Charity.

For Clive, from Grantham, it’s a way of giving something back to the disability charity which has supported his son Jake, who has Autistic Spectrum Disorder resulting in challenging behaviours. Newlife has provided a £2,899 safe sleeping environment; Jake doesn’t settle well and has no awareness of danger so without it he would roam around at night and put himself at risk.
Clive, Kyle and fellow members of Green Watch have carried out a series of public collections at superstores around Lincolnshire and this, combined with Just Giving donations, has already raised an amazing £10,800.
Green Watch will round off the fundraising with two further supermarket collections next month – on July 13 at Asda Grantham and July 14 at Tesco Lincoln.
Clive Baillie said: “The support from the public has been amazing; thank you all. Kyle and I have been putting in a lot of practice time on the bikes, including a 200-mile round trip between all the whole-time fire stations in Lincolnshire. Everything is coming together for the challenge – now, in the last few days before the ‘off’ we just need to rest our bodies and hope they are up to it!”
