CRAFT GROUP WANTS TO INSPIRE OTHERS TO HELP THE COUNTY’S DISABLED CHILDREN

A Warboys-based crafting group has reached a fundraising landmark of £10,000 – every penny of which has been spent on specialist equipment to help disabled and terminally ill children in Cambridgeshire.

The De Ramsay Court Craft Group has been supporting Newlife the Charity for Disabled Children since 2013. The group started with just three members and now has 23. Group member Wendy Thorpe says: “We meet every Wednesday afternoon between 1pm and 4pm at De Ramsay Court in Warboys. We love a good laugh and would welcome anyone who is interested in joining us to pop along and meet us.”

Wendy added: “Small groups like ours can make a huge difference to the lives of disabled children and we would urge other groups across Cambridgeshire to get behind Newlife and support local families. Together, we can really make a difference.”

The De Ramsay Court Craft Group focuses on knitting, crocheting, felting, sewing and card making; however, they would welcome anyone who can introduce a new skill. The group has a permanent stall at De Ramsay Court and also sells its crafts through a series of local events.

They have already made a start on goods ready for their Christmas craft sale, producing a beautiful seasonal-themed blanket (pictured). Newlife Head of Community Fundraising and Awareness Nora Smith said: “The members of this group are so fantastic, I try to attend their meetings whenever I can and always really look forward to seeing what they have made. Their fundraising has helped to change the lives of ten children in Cambridgeshire, funding equipment like specialist seating, a wheelchair, buggy and a safety bed.”
