Dance festival to support disabled children

The organisers of Lichfield Folk Festival have nominated Staffordshire-based Newlife Foundation as its chosen charity for next month’s annual event. The festival – a weekend of dance and music from Friday June 17 to Sunday June 19 – will be taking to the streets and venues of Lichfield, giving people the opportunity to join in a range of dance styles, from Morris to Appalachian. Newlife is appealing for volunteers to help raise money on the charity’s behalf at designated collection points around the city centre on Saturday June 18. Newlife Community Fundraiser Amy Weiser said: “We are looking for volunteers to help collect donations from the public between 10am and 3.30pm, when dance ‘teams’ will be entertaining the crowds around the city centre.” Newlife guarantees that 100 per cent of the money donated will go directly to help disabled children. Last year the charity spent £1.2million funding equipment such as wheelchairs, beds, walking frames and sensory aids. In addition it operates a nurse helpline and offers a Just Can’t Wait specialist equipment loan service. If you would like to volunteer a few hours of your time on Saturday June 18, please call Amy Weiser on 01543 468888 or email aweiser@newlifecharity.co.uk.
