FABULOUS FUNDRAISING GRANNY RAISES MONEY FOR NEWLIFE

A Barnsley Granny has successfully raised £812 for disabled children’s charity, Newlife Foundation, the UK’s largest charitable provider of essential equipment to meet the specialist needs of children with disabilities and terminal illness.

Marlene Wood felt compelled to raise money for the charity after they provided her two-year-old grandson, James, with a specialist chair. The coffee morning was held on Wednesday, November 25 at Silkstone Church near Barnsley and was attended by around 100 people who joined Marlene and her family for coffee, cake, a raffle and a ‘gift bag pick’.

Marlene said; “We were absolutely delighted that so many people turned up – we thought we would only raise a few hundred pounds, so to raise over £800 was amazing. It feels so good to have given something back to Newlife – I was very aware of how much James’s chair cost and I really wanted to do something to show our appreciation. Thank you so much to everyone who came to support us and to the Silkstone Church coffee morning team for hosting the event.”

All the money raise at Marlene’s coffee morning will be used to help provide vital, specialist equipment to disabled and terminally ill children within the South Yorkshire Area.

The Newlife South Yorkshire Fund will support equipment provision for under 19s facing any significant disability, whether acquired through birth defect, prematurity, accident or illness.

Special disability equipment including wheelchairs, walkers, beds, seating and communication aids can help give children independence, keep them safe, relieve pain and overcome challenges. For instance, you could help a child be discharged from hospital, take their first steps or kick a football with their friends!

Vitally, the South Yorkshire Fund website – www.newlifecharity.co.uk/southyorkshire – will enable local people to find out who needs help in the county right now and highlights the support the charity gives to disabled children and their families. It includes contact details for the Newlife County Liaison Team – telephone number 01543 431 444 or email local@newlifecharity.co.uk – and shows specific ways people can help support children with disability and terminal illness and their families.

Newlife Foundation supports families in South Yorkshire through a range of free services:

Nurse Staffed Helpline

The aim of the Newlife South Yorkshire Fund is to ensure children with disabilities or terminal illness in the county will not have to go without the equipment they need for everyday life.
