HELP BETHANY SIT IN COMFORT AND SAFETY WITH HER FAMILY

A seven-year-old Erdington girl needs your help so she can enjoy sitting in comfort and safety with the rest of her family.

A rare brain disorder has left Bethany Danbury with no means to communicate apart from her family understanding her cries. She has limited head control and needs help to roll and has to be fed through a tube, has learning difficulties, Epilepsy and a visual impairment. However, without a special comfy seat, Bethany has to either sit in her wheelchair which becomes very uncomfortable for her, or lie on her bed which means being away from the rest of her family.

Mum Vicki said: “Bethany is sat all the while in her wheelchair or she has to go to her bed. Often she will rest her head on the arm of the wheelchair, which isn’t good for her.

“Her Physio team believe she should have some comfort – I do too. It will be a lot easier for her to relax with her brothers, Cieran, aged eight and Zack, aged five. It will also give me peace of mind sitting next to her.”

A Tiltrite chair which costs £2,025 would make a big difference to Bethany’s life, helping her to remain upright and supported in just the right position for her safety and comfort so she can relax with other family members. The special chair can be used in different rooms of the house and can be adjusted as she grows, meeting her needs for some time to come.

However, there is no funding available from her local Statutory Services, so Bethany’s family have turned to Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children – The UK’s largest charity funder of children’s specialist disability equipment.

Newlife Foundation is looking to raise the funds for Bethany’s new equipment in the West Midlands, however, with applications to Newlife up on last year, the charity is increasingly looking to ‘local heroes’ to help fund vital equipment for children with disabilities and terminal illness in their own counties. If you would like to help Bethany, go to www.newlifecharity.co.uk/westmidlands, read her story and click on the ‘Donate Now’ button. Alternatively you can contact the Newlife County Liaison Team on 01543 431 444 or email local@newlifecharity.co.uk.

Newlife guarantees that 100 per cent of the money donated to help Bethany will be used to fund her special chair. Any surplus funding will help provide equipment for other disabled children in the West Midlands as she is one of 54 children in the area currently in need of equipment.

Newlife has helped 1,043 children in the West Midlands just like Bethany through equipment grants and loans totalling over a million pounds, so we know there is a very real county need.
