LOCAL CONCERT RAISES MONEY FOR DISABLED CHILDREN IN DERBYSHIRE

The Musical Favourites concert at Derby Cathedral on Friday October 16 raised over £4,500 to help children with disabilities and terminal illness in Derbyshire.

Every penny raised will be used by Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children to help buy specialist disability equipment for children in the county.

Newlife is the UK’s largest charitable provider of essential equipment to meet the specialist needs of children with disabilities and terminal illness.

An audience of around 250 enjoyed some of the region’s finest voices in the newly refurbished cathedral. Derby’s Deputy Mayor Mark Tittley and his wife Jill were also there to enjoy the festivities.

Musical Director Liz Moulder orchestrated over 100 choir members, the Sonara Singers and the Eastwood Collieries Male Voice Choir.

Councillor Mark Tittley said: “Both Jill and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and found it to be a very moving occasion. We wish Newlife Foundation every success in the future.” Newlife has helped 284 families in Derbyshire through equipment grants and loans totalling over £221,279.

Among the audience was four-year-old Finley Cooper, from Elvaston, who was in need of an electric wheelchair to get around. With the support of donations from within the county, Newlife has provided this equipment.

Finley’s mum Charlotte Bestwick is taking part in next year’s London Marathon, aiming to raise £12,500 for Newlife, all of which will be used to fund specialist equipment for more children with disabilities and terminal illness in Derbyshire.

The charity is currently working with the families of a further 18 children with equipment needs totalling £3,933.
