LOCAL WAITROSE RAISES OVER £300 TO HELP CHILDREN IN NEED WITHIN SOUTH YORKSHIRE

A big ‘thank you’ goes to the local Waitrose in Ecclesall Road, Sheffield. They raised £330 as part of the Waitrose Community Matters Scheme, which will help ensure Rotherham girl Lily May gets the bed she urgently needs.

Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children has already helped 305 children in South Yorkshire through equipment grants and loans totalling more than £278,279, so the charity knows there is a very real need for a specific county fund. In this way it aims to help more children, more quickly.

Newlife was voted by the community as the charity for August to raise money through the Waitrose Community Matters scheme.

Three-year-old Lily-May Earp has a chromosome condition which meant she needed a specialist cot bed to keep her safe at night and thanks to generous people in Sheffield and Newlife – the UK’s largest charitable provider of essential equipment to meet the specialist needs of children with disabilities and terminal illness – all Lily-May’s needs will soon be met enabling her to sleep in safety and comfort.

Mary Evans Assistant Section Manager Waitrose store in Ecclesall Road, Sheffield, South Yorkshire said: “Lovely to see our Community Matters Scheme going towards something so worthwhile. Thank you to Lily-May’s mum Rebecca for bringing Lily-May and Jackson to meet us. We would also like to thank Caroline from Newlife for her support of the scheme. ”

The Newlife South Yorkshire Fund supports equipment provision for under-19s facing any significant disability, whether acquired through birth defect, prematurity, accident or illness.

Vitally, the Newlife South Yorkshire Fund website – www.newlifecharity.co.uk/southyorkshire – will enable local people to find out who needs help in their county right now and highlight the support the charity gives vulnerable families. It includes contact details for the Newlife County Liaison Team – tel no 01543 431 444 or email local@newlifecharity.co.uk – and shows specific ways people can help support children with disability and terminal illness and their families.
