NEWLIFE TIPS SELFRIDGES TO TOP RETAIL AWARD

Newlife The Charity for Disabled Children is looking to nurture local talent by offering a number of new apprenticeships at their head office site in Cannock.

As the tenth National Apprenticeship Week comes to a close, Newlife – which is the UK’s largest charity provider of specialist equipment for children with disabilities and terminal illness – reveals it has three apprenticeships available which can provide that first rung on the all-important career ladder.

The National charity currently has vacancies available for an Apprentice Fashion Accessory Assistant at the Warehouse at the Hemlock Way site, Apprentice Sales Assistant at the SuperStore and Apprentice Merchandising and Stock Assistant at Newlife at Home. Available to those over the age of 16 and not in full time education, an apprenticeship provides the opportunity to learn new skills, receive formal vocational training and earning money at the same time

Adding to the Newlife family through apprenticeships has already proved extremely successful for the charity. Current apprenticeships are working in both the Fundraising and the Communications departments at Newlife and there are a number of employees whose careers have flourished within the charity after their apprenticeship ended. Katie Haynes, who is now the Care Service Deputy Administration Manager, began her career as a receptionist apprentice while pursuing the Level 2 Business Administration.

Katie said: “It can be really difficult to get a job in a particular profession so an apprenticeship is a good gateway. You are able to learn and gain experience, which you can then put into practice straight away while earning money all at the same time. There are lots of progression opportunities at Newlife and they have been really supportive of my training.”

Lynsey Woolley, People Team (HR) Manager, added: “Apprentices make a valuable contribution to the business by developing skills which match the business needs through a tailored apprenticeship programme. It’s a chance for young people to learn the key skills businesses are looking for as well as gain in confidence and experience working as part of a team, whilst they receive a wage which helps them develop their own independence.”
