Newlife has helped 278 families in Derbyshire through equipment grants and loans totalling over £221,219, so we know there is a very real county need. By attending this event you could help 11 local children who need equipment right now.

Four-year-old Finley Cooper from Elvaston, Derby is one of the 276 children in Derbyshire who have benefited in the county. He will shortly be getting the powered wheelchair he desperately needs thanks to Newlife.

“Our son has a muscle wasting disorder and Finley needs an electric wheelchair to get around,” mum Charlotte explains. “Newlife are funding it and we are getting it in six weeks. So we wanted to help.

“Finley will be able to get out and about and mix with others – he will be a lot more independent. This electric chair will last until he is eight and he will be able to use it to go to school.

“When we go out we have to put him in a pushchair and he can’t play with others. He will now be able to play with his younger sister.”

Charlotte, is determined to raise as much money as possible over the next year for Newlife’s Derbyshire fund. She will be running the gruelling 26.2 mile London Marathon as well as organising various fundraising events.

Because of children like Finley, Newlife – the largest charity funder of specialist equipment for children with disabilities and terminal illness in the UK – recently launched the Newlife Derbyshire Fund – www.newlifecharity.co.uk/derbyshire. It is an opportunity for local people to help local disabled children and support families in the county.

Special disability equipment including wheelchairs, walkers, beds, seating and communication aids can help give children independence, keep them safe, relieve pain and overcome challenges. For instance, you could help a child be discharged from hospital, take their first steps or kick a football with their friends. . . .

Together we can really change the lives of children with disability and terminal illness – supporting them to experience and enjoy life and all that we take for granted. Further information can be obtained by dialling 01543 431 444 or email local@newlifecharity.co.uk.

Newlife are extremely grateful to locally based businesses Smith Cooper, Flint Bishop, Natwest and Purely Digital for supporting the Evening of Choral Favourites.
