SHOE BOX CHRISTMAS – THANKS TO NEWLIFE

Newlife Foundation is supporting Samaritan’s Purse International Relief, which runs ‘Operation Christmas Child’. Newlife has donated clothing and accessories to the Walsall branch for its ‘shoe box’ project.

The Cannock-based national children’s disability charity is providing several crates full of children’s hats, scarves, gloves and jewellery to help fill thousands of shoeboxes which will be despatched around the world from Walsall this autumn, as part of ‘Operation Christmas Child’.

This is the world’s largest children’s Christmas project, which has been bringing joy into the lives of underprivileged children since 1990. Last year nearly 1.2million shoeboxes were packed with gifts and goodies and sent from the UK to children in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa; 9,000 of these were by donated families, youth, school and church groups in Walsall.

Newlife CEO Sheila Brown, OBE, said: “We are delighted to help such a worthwhile cause, spreading the true meaning of Christmas across the world. These small items are surplus to the needs of Newlife as we enter our summer season, so we felt that using them in this way was a great idea. We are pleased to partner with the local volunteers who spend so much time helping these children.”
