SUPPORT DISABLED CHILDREN IN LEICESTERSHIRE

The rising number of calls for help from families of disabled and terminally ill children in Leicestershire to a leading UK charity has resulted in a 70 per cent increase in grants and loans in the last financial year – prompting them to search for an Awareness and Fundraising Manager for the region.

The new role is vital to the work of Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children to help ensure continued support for families of vulnerable children such as Robert Clayton from Sapcote in Leicestershire.

Eleven-year-old Robert has severe learning difficulties and physical limitations which mean he can’t walk far and needs assistance with all aspects of his mobility. He has a specialist bed to keep him safe through the night at home, but sleeping arrangements on holiday are a challenge because of the increasing risk of Robert falling out of bed and injuring himself.

However, thanks to Newlife Foundation providing the family with inflatable cot sides – at a cost of the £858 – the Clayton family were able to go on holiday this summer, safe in the knowledge that Robert couldn’t roll out of bed in the night and hurt himself.

Dad Alex said: “We try to make things fun for Robert and his brother but this means rearranging hotel rooms and putting mattresses on the floor so we know Robert won’t fall far when he rolls over!”

“We used the inflatable cot sides for the first time – and it was great. Now we know that wherever we go now there is an option to ensure Robert is safe and comfortable.”

Established in 1991 the charity delivers help across the UK by providing equipment loans and granting equipment to help children such as Robert. The Newlife Nurse Helpline supports thousands of families in facing the challenges of caring for children with such needs.

So if you are an experienced, target driven fundraiser with outstanding communication skills who would like to feel that every £1 they raise will help to change children’s lives, then contact the Newlife Foundation personnel department on 01543 468888 or visit www.newlifecharity.co.uk for more information.

The charity guarantees that 100 per cent of all monies donated or fundraised in Leicestershire can be ring-fenced to specifically provide equipment for disabled and terminally ill children within the county.
