Beat those January blues and find the feel-good factor for 2025

January often seems like the longest month of the year. Not only is the fun and sparkle of Christmas relegated to the loft, but the days are dark, cold and wet, and everyone seems to be watching their weight and their budgets, so it’s no surprise that the third Monday of the month has been dubbed Blue Monday – the day when people’s happiness levels are at their lowest.

However, there are things you can do to help shrug off those blues, cheer yourself up and boost your own mental health – and nothing gives you a feelgood boost more than helping others, especially disabled children in need.

Helping a charity is a great way to boost the way you feel about yourself and the world in general, and at Newlife there are plenty of ways you can help – whether you choose to shop with us, make a donation, take on a fundraising challenge or want to help by volunteering your free time.

Fundraising: Doing something to help others just feels good. This could be through one of Newlife’s organised events – which you can discover more about here with details about a wide variety of challenges from a race around a theme park or walking to the summit of Mount Snowdon for sunrise, as well as swimming and skydiving. We’d also like to hear from people who want to raise funds for Newlife doing something that appeals to them, whether this is a yogathon, a long-distance drive in something unusual or something else they are passionate about, knowing that every minute it takes is helping a child in need. Our fundraising team are always happy to speak to prospective fundraisers and can be contacted at  fundraise@newlifecharity.co.uk

You can also help Newlife raise funds by voting for the charity in the Benefact Movement for Good website, where you can nominate Newlife in their £1,000 donation draws. All you need to do is click here and be sure to search for our full name: Newlife The Charity for Disabled Children (charity number 1170125)

Volunteering: You can volunteer your time to help Newlife either as an individual or with friends or colleagues at your place of work. Not only is this fulfilling, it can also help you gain new skills and confidence. Newlife has a range of volunteer opportunities to suit all abilities and needs, so if you would like to find out more information click here or email at volunteer@newlifecharity.co.uk.

Shopping: We all love a bit of retail therapy, but when it still feels like a long way to pay day, it can feel more guilt than pleasure, but shopping with Newlife means you not only have your pick from a wide variety of brands at discounted prices, but you can feel good about your purchases too, as profits are used to support disabled children and their families. Newlife has ten stores and pop-ups across the country, and you can find your closest store here https://newlifecharity.co.uk/stores/ but if you live too far away to browse in a physical store, you can hop online instead at https://newlife-online.newlifecharity.co.uk/ or check out our ebay store at https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/newlifebargain

Donating: Every penny counts, so making a direct donation to Newlife, either as a one off, or by choosing to pay a set amount each month, means children across the UK can receive the specialist disability equipment they need, whether this is a bed so they can sleep safely, a car seat so they can travel safely and free from pain in equipment that supports them or buggies and wheelchairs so children are not isolated at home and able to live a more inclusive life, be independent and have fun.
