Can I apply for equipment?
To apply for equipment, you must answer yes to all of the questions below:
- Is the child or young person under the age of 19 years?
- Does the child or young person have a significant disability?
- Is the child or young person resident in the UK?
What am I applying for?
Newlife provide two types of equipment services:
- Equipment Grants – To meet the long-term equipment needs of children or young people.
- Emergency Equipment Loan – a fixed 6 month loan of equipment from our loan suite – see our loan suite here.
Applying for Equipment Grants
What information do I need for my application?
- An assessment for the equipment that is being requested from Newlife needs have taken place before you apply.
- At the assessment you need to request a quote from the supplier and state that you are applying for charity funding.
- Following the assessment and being given a quote, you must speak to an appropriate professional that is actively involved in your child’s care who will be willing to support your application.
- The professional will need to provide a supporting letter which contains the following information.
- Childs Name
- Date of birth
- Confirmation of diagnosis/ condition (or suspected)
- Why the equipment is being requested and is it considered urgent.
- What difference will provision of the equipment make to the child.
- Full confirmation of specification and costings (this will be found on your quote please share with your professional.
- Has a funding request been made to statutory service/ other charities and what was the outcome.

Applying for Emergency Equipment
What information do I need for my application?
- An assessment for the equipment that is being requested from Newlife’s loan suite, needs have taken place or be in process before you apply.
- This will need to be carried out by an appropriate professional who is actively involved in your child’s care, and is also able to assess the type of equipment requested, for example- an Occupational Therapist can assess for a Bed.
- We will need information on the plan for long-term provision of the requested equipment.
- The equipment requested must be checked and selected by the assessing professional, from our loan suite.
- Please be aware that the availability of equipment changes frequently and may not be available at the point of application.
- Once the equipment has been selected, the supporting professional needs to provide a headed letter or official work email which contains the following information.
- Childs Name
- Date of birth
- Confirmation of diagnosis/ condition (or suspected)
- Why the equipment is being requested and is it considered urgent.
- What difference will the provision of the equipment make to the child/ young person.
- Full confirmation of specification.
- The plan for long term provision.

Our Nurse Helpline
Our Child & Family Support team provide supportive care through a national Nurse Helpline which offers information to families and professionals caring for disabled and terminally ill children.
Qualified and experienced Nurses are available on Newlife’s free Nurse Helpline to provide information, help on the application process and compassionate support.
