Girlguiding can offer lots of fun activities, but for some girls getting involved can be difficult, especially if they have a disability or illness, don’t live near a unit, or have mental health difficulties. But that doesn’t mean they can’t get involved and make new friends.
Following the success of Girlguiding Midlands’ partnership with Newlife to promote the charity and support our Sparkle Day fundraiser, they wanted to let families in the region know about the different ways girls can get involved with Girlguiding – wherever they are in the West Midlands.
Girlguiding units for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers (4-18 years) can offer girls across the county a very warm welcome. But they are aware that you may be unable to access a place in your local unit for many different reasons.
GLAM units are for girls who would like to attend a Girlguiding unit but are unable to attend face-to-face unit meetings. Girls may not be able to attend units for many reasons which may include distance, illness or disability, mental health issues or waiting for a space in a local unit, but they could attend a GLAM unit, which aims to ensure that no-one is prevented from joining the fun that Girlguiding offers.
Girls can join in with all the usual Girlguiding activities appropriate to their age and section in a virtual way, which may be on Zoom or may involve having activities sent out to them by email. Girls can still earn their badges and awards.
Why join Girlguiding?
- It’s an affordable activity club for girls and young women.
- They have an action-packed programme that is girl-led with something for every girl.
- They offer a safe, girl-only space in which your child can build confidence, try things for the first time and realise their full potential.
- Girls can take part in all levels of adventure from high adrenaline to gentler experiences. It could be a bug hunt in the garden or the chance to go abseiling.
