Rose, from Crewe, was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy due to brain damage affecting 97 per cent of her brain, sustained during a life-changing accident where she briefly died in the ambulance when she was just six weeks old – leaving her unable to walk, talk or sit up independently and experiencing weekly seizures.
Rose, now aged five, has limited equipment at home which only allows her to sleep or sit in one position as she need 24-hour specialist support for her posture; but she desperately needs a specialist seat which will also enable her to be safe, comfortable and happy.
Newlife is stepping in with an urgent appeal to help raise £1,600 for a brand-new seat for Rose. This specialist equipment can enhance Rose’s life by allowing her a change of position, to sit in comfort with her family – even in the garden – and enjoy life whilst still receiving all the support she needs.
Newlife is the leading charity supplier of specialist equipment for disabled and terminally ill children in the UK. It has granted equipment including specialist beds, buggies and car seats to keep children safe and improve their quality of life for more than 30 years.
Rose’s proud adoptive mum Louise says: “She’s been a little warrior to recover as much as she has and is an absolute pleasure to be around and we feel she deserves all the help possible to make her life more comfortable, but equipment for disabled children is so expensive.
“Rose needs a specialist seat called a P Pod. This has a moulded seat with straps to keep her safe on a bean bag type base. It even has wheels so we can take her from room to room, wherever we are, whatever we are doing. Rose loves being outside in the fresh air; the P Pod would allow us to take her outside and enjoy the sunshine.”
A P Pod is designed to be used whilst relaxing, playing, eating, watching TV and more. Its comfortable design also means it’s great for taking naps, so Rose’s mum Louise can also get on with daily tasks knowing that she is safe and secure.
Kam Dulai, Newlife’s Child and Family Support Manager said: “We understand how hard it is for families with disabled and terminally ill children right now – a recent Family Fund survey revealed nine out of 10 are struggling or falling behind with household bills with many are forced to do without things like food, heating or basic furniture. It highlighted the unsustainable strain families face as they try to cover sky-high costs on top of severely reduced incomes due to intense caring responsibilities and the three times higher cost to look after a disabled child. We urgently want to help Rose, but we really need the help of the local community to do this.”
Rose’s family is incredibly grateful for any support received to help fund her appeal. To donate please call 01543 431 444, email fundraise@newlifecharity.co.uk or click here
