House getting you down? You are not alone – 365,000 disabled people in the UK say their home is not suitable for their needs. We hear this every day from families. But you can do something about it.
A few opportunities include:
- A disabled Facilities Grant is non means tested and can fund big changes to your home, whether it is a housing authority, private rented or you have a mortgage. Up to £30,000 is available
- Home Improvement Agencies – many local authorities run a Home Improvement fund, to make older and disabled people’s homes warmer, cut energy costs, fight damp, repair gutters, do small repairs and much more.
- Moving? Many areas run an ‘accessible housing’ register if you are looking to move, so be sure to get in touch with the council in the area you are interested in.
