£1M MOTABILITY GRANT TO HELP NEWLIFE FUND WHEELCHAIR AND BUGGIES

Newlife has received a £1m grant from the charity Motability over three years to provide disabled and terminally ill children across the UK with life-changing specialist buggies and wheelchairs.

The aim of the grant is to help around 280 children and young people with mobility issues and will fund specialist buggies, wheelchairs and powered wheelchairs which will improve the health and wellbeing of the whole family, as well as helping disabled children to fulfil their potential.

The funding from Motability, the charity, comes from its new portfolio of grant programmes specifically set up for other charities and organisations who support the transport needs of disabled people. Over three financial years ending in March 2025, Motability will award a total of £50 million in funding to charities and organisations across the UK who can help fill gaps in existing transport services for disabled people.

Equipment grants are now being made from the first round of funding from the Motability which will improve mobility for children which means they will be able to safely and comfortably visit and explore new places, attend vital medical appointments, go to school and into their local community – so if there is a child or young person you think could benefit, you can encourage the family to apply to Newlife.

More information about how to apply for equipment – including wheelchairs, buggies and powered wheelchairs – can be found at https://newlifecharity.co.uk/equipment-grants/.  As well as applications forms for equipment grants, you will also find applications forms for our Emergency Equipment Loan service and for the loan of specialist sensory toys through Newlife’s Play Therapy Pod Service.
