LOCAL CONCERT RAISES MONEY FOR DISABLED CHILDREN IN DERBYSHIRE

A ‘Gin and Sing’ concert in the Painted Hall at Chatsworth House has raised over £2,500 to help children with disabilities and terminal illness in Derbyshire.

Every penny raised at lasts months event will be used by Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children to help buy specialist disability equipment for children in the county.

Newlife is the UK’s largest charitable provider of essential equipment to meet the specialist needs of children with disabilities and terminal illness.

The Duke of Devonshire greeted guests as they arrived and were treated to free gin and tonics courtesy of Nelson’s Gin and Fentimens. The catering was provided by students at YMCA Derbyshire – young people in the area who are taking part in a course to get back on their feet.

The start of the event had an incredible welcome speech from The High Sheriff of Derbyshire Liz Fothergill CBE, DL, which highlighted the importance of communities and charities working together. Sonara Singers performed musical theatre songs with their special guest soloist David Weston.

The High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Liz Fothergill CBE, DL, said: “The night was a big success, it was good to see so much of the community come together and support the event which really raised the profile of Newlife. Students from the YMCA did an amazing job and it shows that Newlife is very supportive of charities in other sectors. The venue was lovely and the singers sounded amazing, everyone who participated did a very good job.”

Other guests included Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant William Tucker, and the Vice Chancellor of Derby University Kath Mitchell. The night was sponsored by Natwest Derby, Dains Accountants and Nelsons Solicitors.

Regional Fundraising and Awareness Manager David Reeves said: “I can’t thank everyone enough for supporting this great event at one of the most prestigious homes in the country. Everyone who has attended will now be helping to change the life of a disabled and terminally ill children in Derbyshire and I hope that it inspires many more to help in the run up to Christmas”

In response to growing demand, the charity launched its Newlife Derbyshire fund – https://newlifecharity.co.uk/Derbyshire to give local people the opportunity to donate to children under 19 who need specialist equipment within the county. Newlife has already helped 366 families get specialist equipment totalling £325,277.
