GET READY TO RUN – WITH ALISON AND ELLEN

Two managers who work together at an East Dulwich store are both getting married this year and will run the BUPA London 10,000 – with their husbands to be.

Alison Sullivan and Ellen Fahy who work together at White Stuff in Lordship Lane have already done plenty of training for the run on May 25.

“I’m getting married August 22 and Ellen is getting married on April 25,” said Alison. “So yes, it has given us something else to talk about apart from our weddings.

“Ellen will be on honeymoon until May 11 so she will be taking her running shoes to Italy with her and we are all meeting up within the week to discuss our training – in the pub over a glass of Prosecco,” she added with a smirk.

“Both of us live in the area with our partners Jason Folland and Blake Gladman who are running with us. We all regularly do the 5k run in Dulwich Park on Saturday morning, work permitting.

“Blake has done a marathon before and Jason and I both did the Great London 10k run last year for our store charity.

“Also on a personal level we are both getting married this year and thought it would be a great way to get fit, so we look good in our frocks.”

It will be a great achievement to complete the BUPA London 10,000, but the quartet will feel good knowing that all monies raised will go to Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children and every penny raised will go to children with disabilities and terminal illness in Greater London.

“We work closely with Newlife at the store, so we thought it’s the perfect charity to support as they do some fantastic work,” Alison added. “And there are still places for other runners to raise funds for London children and run for Newlife.”

At present, Newlife Foundation is working with 27 children in Greater London who require equipment grants and loans totalling £38,894. To learn more about disability needs in the area go to: www.newlifecharity.co.uk/greaterlondon. This enables local people to find out who needs help in their area right now and highlights the support the charity gives vulnerable families. It includes contact details for the Newlife Liaison Team – telephone 01543 431 444 or email local@newlifecharity.co.uk

Newlife Foundation is the largest charity provider of specialist equipment with disabilities or terminal illness in the UK.

Stephen Morgan, Newlife Operations Manager said: “It’s the enthusiasm and commitment of people like Alison, Ellen, Jason and Blake that is key to us continuing to be able to support vulnerable families, as the demand on Newlife equipment services increases.”
