HELP CHLOE SLEEP SAFELY

Local heroes are needed to ensure a Chepstow teenager can have the special bed she needs to sleep safely at night.

Chloe Jenkins, aged 16, has Epilepsy as well as difficulty understanding danger and has some challenging behaviours which are a result of having Autistic Spectrum Disorder. This has resulted in her continually damaging the standard bed she sleeps in, which puts her at risk of injuring herself on the broken bits.

Chloe’s family have been regularly repairing her bed to make sure she is safe, but a special ‘tough bed’ would reduce the risk of injury to her. However, the specialist sleeping system will cost £884 and there are no grants available from their local statutory services for the equipment, so the family have turned to Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children for help.

Newlife, the UK’s largest charitable provider of essential paediatric equipment to meet the specialist needs of children with disabilities and terminal illness, are now hoping to raise the funds locally in Torfaen so Chloe can have the bed she needs.

Newlife has already spent more than £10,895 on specialist equipment for 12 children in Torfaen, however, with applications to Newlife up on last year, the charity is increasingly looking to ‘local heroes’ to help fund vital equipment for children with disabilities and terminal illness in their own counties.

“The equipment will help us so much as Chloe has Autistic spectrum disorder and temper tantrums,” said mum Rebecca. “She has broken so many beds and bedroom furniture that it has become very costly.

“With a new strong and robust bed it will be safe for Chloe and can’t be destroyed.” If you would like to help Chloe, go to www.newlifecharity.co.uk/torfaen, read her story and click on the ‘Donate Now’ button. Alternatively you can contact the Newlife County Liaison Team on 01543 431 444 or email local@newlifecharity.co.uk.

Newlife guarantees that 100 per cent of the money donated to help Chloe will be used to fund her special bed. Any surplus funding will help provide equipment for other disabled children in Torfaen as she is one of two children in the area currently in need of equipment.
