MAGNIFICENT SEVEN RUN FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

The team of seven from Derby’s Else Solicitors who completed the 21km Ramathon have reached a verdict – it was hard work pounding the streets of Derby, but rewarding knowing the money raised will help local children with disabilities.

Oliver Buckle, Business Development Manager at Else Solicitors, explained: “It was great to run for Newlife at the Ramathon. It is such a well-organised event, the weather was glorious and the public support was incredible.

“All seven members of TeamElse had a fantastic time raising-funds for this amazing charity.”

Funds raised will go directly to Newlife Foundation for Children with Disabilities and every penny donated or fundraised for the charity is guaranteed to support families in the county.

Special disability equipment including wheelchairs, walkers, beds, seating and communication aids can help give children independence, keep them safe, relieve pain and overcome challenges. For instance, you could help a child be discharged from hospital, take their first steps or kick a football with their friends.

When Statutory Services are not able to help Newlife often steps in and the recently launched Newlife Derbyshire Fund, www.newlifecharity.co.uk/derbyshireshire, is currently looking to raise £15,234 to help 23 local families. So far £217,549 has been spent on 258 children in the area.

You can help children like eleven-year-old Wendy who is looking forward to getting a hi-tech powered wheelchair so she can make the most of school life and days out with her family.

Wendy has Cerebral Palsy which means she has limited mobility and is only able to walk short distances. She currently has the support of a manual wheelchair, but has to rely on carers, family and friends to push her around.

Mum, Eliza said: “Wendy is a typical 11-year-old and wants to be independent. The powered wheelchair will make that possible.”

Vitally, the Newlife Derbyshire Fund website – www.newlifecharity.co.uk/derbyshire – will enable local people to find out who needs help in their county right now and highlight the support the charity gives vulnerable families. It includes contact details for the Newlife County Liaison Team – telephone 01543 431 444 or email local@newlifecharity.co.uk – and shows specific ways people can help support children with disability or terminal illness and their families.

Chris Else, Managing Partner at Else Solicitors, added: “I would like to congratulate the organisers of the Derby Ramathon for hosting a fantastic event. It was great to see so many local people turning out along the route in support of the runners.

“Else are the corporate sponsors of Newlife Foundation for 2015. We have a fund-raising target of £10,000 this year and the donations we received for the Ramathon greatly contributed toward this.”

So far the team has collected £473.75 for children with disabilities, if you would like to add to the TeamElse Newlife Charity Fund click on https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/ElseSolicitors
