OPTIMAL WORKOUT FOR SANTA DASHERS

Cannock strength and conditioning coaches Craig Owen, Conor Murphy and Jon Aldridge will be getting runners for the Newlife Santa Dash warmed up and ready for their festive frolic through the town centre on Saturday 13 December.

Craig, Conor and Jon, co-owner of Optimal Sports Performance Ltd at the Lakeside Business Park, will be putting participants – including a team of their own – through their paces shortly before the 11am start of the Newlife Santa Dash from Chase Leisure Centre.

Craig said: “It’s a great opportunity for us to get involved in a community event like this; bringing everyone together with fitness at this festive time of year is fantastic.”

After completing the one-mile route, entrants can celebrate with refreshments at the Bank Bar and Lounge.

It’s £5 to enter the Newlife Santa Dash, with under-16s free, and participants are encouraged to fundraise for Cannock-based UK children’s disability charity Newlife Foundation, to support local children.

Every over-16 entrant gets a free Santa suit when they register, which can be done via www.newlifecharity.co.uk/santadash or by calling 0800 988 4640 (free from UK landlines).

Newlife Fundraising Manager Nora Smith said: “Last year we had an amazing turnout for the Newlife Santa Dash and this December we would like to make it bigger and better than ever.

“It’s a great opportunity for individuals as well as families, groups of work colleagues, students and even health and leisure club members to get together for a bit of festive fun. It’s a real party atmosphere!”

The past year has seen Newlife Foundation’s range of practical support services for disabled and terminally ill children develop and expand as demand has increased. In 2013/14, Newlife awarded 1,303 Equipment Grants across the UK, totalling £2,088,105. This was a 33 per cent increase on the previous financial year.

The proceeds from last year’s Newlife Santa Dash helped four Staffordshire children by providing specialist walkers for three youngsters and a standing frame for a fourth.

Newlife is currently working with the families of four children in the county, who need equipment totalling £4,336. So why not sign up now for the Newlife Santa Dash and help a local disabled child get an extra special gift this Christmas.
